PTA Meetings

We will have PTA meetings every other month starting September 10th at 6:30 pm.

Parent Advisory Committee

“Advocacy is a constitutional right and a proud American tradition. It’s the most important opportunity, after voting, that Americans have to be involved in their government. PTA is one of the nation’s oldest and most successful advocacy organizations. PTA has been an advocate for children since 1897 and has always been at the forefront in supporting laws that benefit children. One PTA purpose is to secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth. North Carolina PTA members can fulfill this mission and help brighten the future of every child.” (Taken from the website.)

Advocacy can play a very big part in that because it gives a voice to our children who might otherwise not be heard. Anyone can be an advocate. You simply need to make your voice heard on the issues you feel strongly about. The advocacy committee researches the issues that are affecting our children in school and finds a way to speak out on children and parents’ behalves. You are invited to attend monthly PAC meetings, and also to get involved in the wider reaching district, county, and state wide educational issues such as educational funding, elections, Board of Education meetings, County Commissioner meetings and Town Hall meetings.

Fall Festival

It is with pride and excitement that we will hold our annual Fall Festival on October 11, 2019! Students enjoy an evening of fun with friends and family. The event features delicious food and treats, carnival games, and kids' activities both indoor and outdoor. For the grownups, we have the always popular 50/50 Raffle and Silent Auction. This event requires many volunteers, so please consider signing up to help. There are lots of short, one-time volunteer opportunities at this event.

Family Math Night

Food Lion is the host of this fantastic event held in the second half of each year. Students, family members, and teachers flock to our local store to participate in Family Math Night. Students are given grade appropriate worksheets with real life math applications. They go through the store, locating various items, performing price comparisons and calculations. Teachers are on hand to assist students; families have fun working together practicing math skills. In addition, there are door prizes, fun activities, refreshments, and goody bags.

Staff Appreciation

We appreciate our staff every day but want to make sure they feel supported and appreciated several times during the year! We will be holding a catered breakfast and a potluck lunch (where parent volunteers will cover lunch duty, too!). We also recognize Teacher Appreciation Week by encouraging your students to show their admiration for their individual teacher. Stay tuned for sign ups coming home and on ways to help show our teachers and staff our love.

We have been working closely with SFL and MCS to make necessary safety and upgrade renovations to the playground. We have completed 3 phases of updates and are very proud of the finished product! This committee is utilized to help keep the playground balls inflated, the nets in good shape, tether balls on the poles and weeds pulled!

Clothes Closet

We collect new and gently used clothing and shoes- of all sizes and seasons to distribute to families and students in need. Whether it be a student who needs a fresh change of clothes during the school day or a family who needs help, our goal is to provide assistance. We also collect hygiene items to pass out. You can make donations through the front office and utilize the clothes closet through your homeroom teacher.

Hospitality helps our PTA reach out to parents, students, teachers and staff who may need an encouraging note, card, or gesture. We support our SFL family!

Social Events

This committee plans all the social events for parents and students. They will plan Donuts with a Grown up, Pastry with a parent, Bingo Night, and other activities TBD. These events are for parents to have fun with their children.

Boosterthon is such a fun and exciting fundraiser that all the kids get to enjoy. Boosterthon is all about building character and encouraging all kids to be the best they can be and have fun. A Team will come to our school for a week and it culminates with a FUN RUN at the end and we receive donations based on the number of laps our students finish. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year! Our run will be held in February. For more information visit :

Other School Activities that PTA Supports:

Scholastic Book Fair

Twice a year, Mrs. Blake, SFL Media Specialist, organizes and hosts a Scholastic Book Fair. The funds raised are used to purchase new books for the school library and other school needs. Volunteers are needed to assist with set up, clean up, checking out purchases, and helping students make book selections. Look for flyers prior to events for dates and times for volunteering.

Teacher Toolbox

Helping teachers out each month by collecting supplies that are needed in their classrooms via a sign up genius.

SFL’s physical education program utilizes FitnessGram to assess fitness and physical activity levels. In order for this assessment to be conducted in a timely manner, volunteers would be very helpful to Ms. Fields. Volunteers would measure stretches, count pushups, count laps, and other things of that nature. Please contact for more information on this volunteer opportunity.

5th Grade End of the Year Celebration

Our PTA helps fund a celebration on 5th grade promotion day for our rising 6th graders. Do you have a 5th grader this year?

Consider volunteering to send off the 5th graders from SFL with a fun day!

Moore County Schools Military Family Council

The MFC is comprised of volunteer military family members from each school acting as a point of contact for our incoming and currently enrolled military-connected families. The purpose of MFC is to be a resource for military families to ask questions and find support, advocate on behalf of our military families and collaborate with MCS to identify the needs of military students. The SFL liaisons this year are Erica Davis and Shanna Blackwood . You can reach all three at The MFC meets one Wednesday evening a month at 6:30 at MCS Central Office in Carthage.
